Who are we?
Goals
Glorify God, our Creator and the intelligent Designer of the biological systems we work with on a daily basis (plants, soil, insects, etc.)
Develop relationships with people in our community through fresh produce sales, education opportunities, and garden visits.
To get out of the textbook and learn about the use of regenerative and organic farming practices in real world application.
Gardeners
We are the Waibels! We both grew up with our hands in the dirt, learning first hand how food is grown. As a Farm Manager in his full-time job at Waibel Farmland Services, Seth has had the opportunity to learn more about regenerative and organic agriculture. This led to a desire to gain hands-on experience. Adrienne worked several summers at a small farm growing, prepping, and distributing produce, so it seemed Providential that our similar passions would result in the stewardship of a patch of God’s land we call Salted Spade. We appreciate the opportunity to bring our kids out to grandma and grandpa’s where we all plant, learn, tend, and grow together!
Location
Salted Spade is located at Seth’s parents’ (Brian and Wendy) property just west of Mahomet near Spring Lake. When you come to visit, you’ll likely see the Saltbox before you see the garden. Saltbox is a colonial style of architecture and takes its name from the shape of the wooden lidded box that was once used to hold salt. Our garden was named with this iconic home style in mind as well as the seasoning and preserving properties of salt referenced several times in the Bible. We look forward to seeing you in the garden, just east of the Saltbox!
